The Trip

This summer, I was incredibly fortunate to be able to travel to rural Swaziland and Mozambique, Africa with the super talented lady bosses from Project Raiz

While they met with local artisans and helped them create steady sources of income(most of which live on $1 a day), I spent time visiting with kids living in an orphanage. I brought with me a suitcase filled with a bunch of copies of ROCKSTAR to donate, and all kinds of arts and craft (and fun) supplies.

After I read them ROCKSTAR, I had them go find rocks to paint yellow. We had some extra paint, so naturally we used it as face paint:

Kids remind us how wonderful and exciting life can be. Should be. Too often we're hardened and molded by our life experiences.

Spending time with these kids in Africa who have so little, but so much at the same time, was truly a life-changing experience. One of my favorite moments was the opportunity to draw and paint with them. And just watch them get creative. Their imaginations ran wild:

I want to give every child, everywhere, the opportunity to tap into their creative self.

That's why 10% of all profits from ROCKSTAR will be split and donated directly to the El-Sheddai Orphanage and Mozambique Artisan Center to help nurture and develop creativity in their communities. Half the donations will be used to help buy necessities for the children living at El-Sheddai and the other half will go toward building costs for the Mozambique Artisan Center.

Kids everywhere deserve the gift of imagination and creativity. Art moves and changes the world. Hopefully our donations will help change theirs:
